Drake University will begin the transition to Blackboard 9 this fall.
The upgrade will take place during the 2012–13 academic year. To make the change, you will need to transfer the content of your courses to the new version of Blackboard. By the summer 2013 semester, all courses will need to be switched.
Switch to Blackboard 9 now
You can use Blackboard 9 for your fall courses. To access Blackboard 9 system, type in bb9.drake.edu in the browser URL. Blackboard offers many improvements over the current version, which Drake began using in 2007.
Blackboard 9 has:
- New features and updates, including an improved Grade Center
- Better functionality and integration with new technologies
- Ability to customize the look of your courses
- Streamlined operations, which make it easier to edit course content
Why Blackboard?
Blackboard 9 was selected after a rigorous, faculty-led process. OIT and a faculty committee considered four Learning Management Systems (LMS) and piloted two of those systems in courses this past semester. Based on feedback from that pilot, Faculty Senate voted to select Blackboard 9 as Drake’s LMS.
